It is right in the middle of summer and we underestimated the capabilities of the bugs So don't stay in the summer.
The cabins are fine. My cabin was missing part of a floorboard on the porch - unsafe in the extreme for the little ones. The shower was incredibly hot. Too hot for the kids, they had to shower at the bike wash back near the beach. Added to that the 3 people pounding on several cabin doors at 1 a. It was interesting to be smack in the middle of a large city and surrounded by quiet woods. The campground was as clean as possible, the beach seemed pretty grubby but its obvious both get a lot of wear.
A poor showing for a state park - but maybe the caveat is 'urban' state park. Stay away from Idiots park rangers. Shelter is far-away from main parking lot. So we had to carry a lot heavy coolers and stuff long way to place because they do not allow people use service roads. Well, I understand these rules and let it be while it's not user friendly access.
We had nice time with many families and around 15 little children small babies included. All access roads to shelter where flooded. And 30min. Rain was pouring!!! Two big park trucks were collecting garbage bags and driving around. We asked for chance to use service road as all garbage trucks using to help load small babies and heavy stuff into the cars.
Park ranger even said that they will call police for trespassing. These IDIOTS put higher priority to use park trucks for picking-up garbage bags instead of helping park guest with small babies to access shelter!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we pushed baby strollers thru flooded park in HEAVY rain while park rangers where driving trucks on the same road.

The cabins are air conditioned and many of them face towards the woods so you can almost forget that you are in the middle of a massive urban area. We stayed in Cabin 3 and I would say if you want to stay in the best cabins try because the rest sort of face North Beach and in your view are the massive skyscrapers that are typical of Miami. Each cabin also has a swing and a bench connected to it. Outside of the cabin is a picnic table, a fire pit and a grill. Restrooms are between cabins 1 and 2.
There are plugs in the cabins. The single beds are bunk beds which are really great and everything inside the cabin sticks to the true wood cabin look and feel. We were about 20 minutes from South Beach and at night the gates are locked to the park and you get in by a code that you are given when you stay so you can go in and out at night.
