Fast forward 11 years after closing the door on that part of my life, I found myself curious of how Perfect World was doing in So I went ahead and downloaded the enormously-sized game and realized that I no longer had access to my original account. After re-signing up, I began a nostalgic trip down memory lane..
Upon logging in I learned that there were several new races, each with their corresponding race-specific classes. Perfect World has always been known for its extensive character creator, but seeing the overhauled creator for the new Technician and Edgerunner classes was something else entirely.
After making it into the game I found that we all share the same unique starting zone now. Having a central starting zone makes it easier for players to join one another and participate in content together, but at the same time the game loses some of its unique personality. I remember back when I first played this game, Winged Elves possessed the ability to fly from level 1 whereas I as a Human had to earn that right. This meant that my sister, who I played with at the time was required to fly across the entire map to level with me, as there was no way I could reasonably be expected to traverse it on foot.
Not having that experience for new players — or the opportunity for experience like that is definitely a con to having a general designated newbie area, but at the same time, I can understand this makes the game feel more alive, and presents more opportunities for early-level cooperative play.
By the time I ceased my playthrough of the game, I ended at approximately level This was a bit of a grind to obtain, as leveling through the introductory levels of the game was relatively quick and painless, and leveling up until 40 was fairly straightforward. This got progressively worse as the game went on, with level 50 requiring substantially more XP to level than Thankfully there have been improvements made to both the graphical aspect of the game, and the gameplay.
PW always had problems with economics. You always had literally empty pockets. Quests gave you and give a tiny bit of money. Professions were too expensive and they were profitable only on high levels except apothecary. You always wanted new gear, equipment repair and etc. Mounts were expensive as hell. Good mounts cost you a real money, like flying mounts, and you always struggled with low movement speed.
More updates -- more money wasting. Genies want to eat, feed them, Learn skills, and etc. The game was P2W from the early start when the shop was added. But with every patch, every addon, PW became more P2W, more grindy and less interesting. Do not play the game if you have no nostalgia feelings. If you want to experience PW -- go find a classic server with the first expansion, or better without it.
But I've always been loyal to my memories. When PW was an interesting adventure when the world was fulfilled with new players, who didn't know where to go and who to kill. Everybody was asking for help and everyone helped! It was the golden age same was in WOW Vanilla when people were so poor so they group up and trying to be better together -- they were questing, they tried to find the guide in a new dungeon. This game is like a hamster wheel, taking years, doing the same quests over and over to raise the levels of all your skills, boundaries and equipment.
The alternative is to sink thousands upon thousands of dollars into the game to buy the more elite gear and items to level more quickly. It is no surprise that items to allow individuals to automatically level their character are made available at a very high cost. It has a very elitist culture. With PWE constantly removing the ability for individuals to be able to get squads, due to inferior equipment, they make it more difficult for struggling players by removing items from being able to be earned from a solo endeavour making it very difficult to progress in this game.
Other players constantly ask that you show your weapon before granting you an invitation to a squad. Items that were previously able to be earned through tasks in game are removed and put into the cash shop on a regular basis.
This can make it difficult or more likely impossible to be able to improve your gear or abilities without paying real world money, when coming late to the game, due to established players having been able to acquire it more easily. PvP has become incredibly unbalanced, with characters that are over powered able to take out characters that were originally designed as tanks in game with a single blow. The company has been mismanaging its games for many years now.
This has been reflected in the great many lay offs of employees in the company, the rapid decline in its share prices and the closing of many of its divisions.
Servers have been merged many times over the years, with only one quarter of the servers remaining now, due to only having one eighth of the population they once had. It is estimated that many of the games that PWE support won't last more than 2 to 3 years, so investing time or money in their games would be a complete waste. I more than anyone would love to see someone come on board with the courage to do what is necessary to turn this game around.
I had many family and friends that used to play this game, that have all quit and never anticipate returning. Don't be mislead by individuals that lie and tell you that elite gear can be easily obtained for free, they have an ulterior motive. The population of this game is dying at an incredible rate and those that have spent countless hours and thousands of dollars will do anything to keep it alive, even trying to encourage others to join by feeding them lies about how simple it is to not spend money and achieve high level gear and abilities.
Unless your idea of a great weekend is being constantly one shot by these individuals, I would highly advise trying another game. Unfortunately greed and selfishness dominate this game.
Other games that won't have your bank manager calling you in a hysteric and allow you to compete on a more even playing field more quickly would be "Tera" or "Elder Scrolls Online". The game itself has a great premise, or did have. The language allowed in the game will scare a biker, subjecting children to this may be against the law as they are aware of the language. The game offers items for sale but there's a catch to many of them.
It's similar to gambling, you might get what you think, however you'll get, for the most part. Yes the game is free to play, however that may only last a few days when the realization sneeks up on you that you must spend money to continue to play the game. Extreme sexual connotations are everywhere, from clothing, actions and language. I would recommend this game if the management would clean up its act, it is a Chinese oriented game. Classes Perfect World Classes Archer - Archers are guardians of the winged elves, an apt name considering they learn the ability to fly at level 1 making them unrivaled for mobility.
They are one of the primary DPS classes in Perfect World, able to dish out critical hits with precision. Assassin - relying on stealth, Assassins are able to conquer any other class in the game in a 1v1 match. Covert skills combined with overwhelming critical hits deplete enemies HP in a matter of seconds. Barbarian - tearing through their opponents in a rage, the Barbarian is able deal massive damage and endure enemies attacks. While they are natural tanks, the Barbarian can be built to be agile warriors that move faster on the battlefield then other classes on mounts.
Blademaster - years of combat training make Blademaster's versatile damage dealers. Taking control of the battlefield by stunning enemies, they are effective at controlling crowds and slicing enemies apart one at a time.
Cleric - the healers of Perfect World, the Cleric is also able to bring teammates back from the dead. They prove formidable against enemies due to their ability to heal themselves on the battlefield. Clerics are able to fly at level 1 and learn powerful spells in later levels. Mystic - wielding magic to decimate enemies, Mystics use magically imbued weapons to summon pets or plants and heal themselves. Providing buffs and AoE effects makes them experts at controlling multiple enemies on the battlefield while also acting as support for fellow players.
They fortify themselves with skills that punish enemies for attacking, such as reflect damage and reflecting debuffs. Fully buffed psychics don't have to attack; waiting for enemies to attack them and kill themselves is more than enough. Seeker - using swords and wearing heavy armor, Seekers cut down any enemy that threatens their world. Able to absorb a high amount of damage, the Seeker proves an effective support class while also wearing down enemies. Venomancer - at one with nature, Venomancers partner with bats, foxes, and other creatures to battle the wraiths that threaten Perfect World.
They can take the form of a fox to increase their physical defense and fight with strength, or explore their magic roots using ranged poison attacks. Wizard - casting spells always puts the Wizard at risk but, once chanted, devastating damage is unleashed on their enemies.
Drawing on the elements, the wizard focuses on burst damage or can surround themselves with magical defenses to withstand the onslaught of enemies. Screenshots Perfect World Screenshots. Music Perfect World Music. Shea Thomas December 25, pm. Zamorano April 10, am. Nicholas Wells October 7, pm.
