Lutheran what is confirmation

The church is missing a huge opportunity. I used to think there was something wrong with confirmation, but I have developed the opinion that the problem really is within congregations. We do not have enough trust in our young people. We do not see how young people are like the rest of the church where our ministry occurs in everyday living. With adults, ministry happens in households, on the job and in community.

This is also true among young people. Faith formation may happen in the congregation, but the application is in the classroom, athletic field, band and trying to juggle a part-time job. Regardless of how old we are, what God wants for us has not began and will not end with Confirmation. By the grace of God, we continue — each and every day of our lives — to walk our journey of life with God.

Confirmation will teach you how your faith can be active in your daily life. It teaches you about the promises that God has made to you and how you can depend on those promises during your lives. At the end of the Confirmation program you will have a deeper, more personal and honest idea about what you believe and who God is. You will learn how to live out that faith in the church and world. Here is how we are going to do that. We are going to study scripture, Baptism, Communion , and the teachings of Martin Luther.

The Rite of Confirmation will take place in May, with a second date in January in coming years. Prior to the Rite, students will complete their final Confirmation Project, write a faith statement, and select their Confirmation verse.

To celebrate this with your family, the church offers a Confirmation Dinner for our confirmands and families the night before Confirmation Sunday.
